NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Yankees have put pitcher Ivan Nova on the 15-disabled list because of inflammation in his right rotator cuff.
The Yankees made the move Thursday after an MRI revealed the problem. The team says treatment will consist of medicine and rest, and that the right-hander will not play catch for five days.
Nova is 11-7 with a 4.92 ERA. He has struggled lately and took the loss Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox.
Earlier this week, manager Joe Girardi said David Phelps would be the primary candidate to fill in if Nova had to miss a start.
The Yankees were off Thursday. They begin a series Friday night in Cleveland and ace CC Sabathia is set to come off the disabled list to start.
